AGS FP Club Annual Dinner - RNUC, Aberdeen - Friday 23rd March 2018
All FP Club Members are reminded that our Annual Dinner is being held in the RNUC buildings at 9 Albyn Place, Aberdeen on Friday 23rd March 218. Members are asked to assist Neil Lawrie - our Social Convenor - and our Treasurer - John Michie (treasurer@agsfp.com) with a reply, well before 9th March of your intentions.

All FP members were advised sometime ago of the arrangements by a form within the 2017 Magazine; but to limit costs, this reminder is only going out electronically. It's up to all Members to personally contact those of your mates who you know do not have email or internet access and encourage them to come. Try and organise a year table, already well established and enjoyed by many regulars!

Below is a memo from Brian Crookshanks, our magazine editor and father of Gillian, our enthusiastic President. She has frequently crossed the pond on our behalf – at her own expense – performing her many duties including the delivery of a further and significant contribution from our generous Canadian FP members towards the enhancement of part of the refurbished School Library. Please show Gillian our support by attending. She has had a fantastic year!

From Brian - The Toast to “The School and the Club” at the Annual Dinner will be proposed by Professor Margaret Ross, one of the Vice-Principals of Aberdeen University. Margaret is a Law graduate of the University and after eleven years as a practising solicitor in Aberdeen, with a part-time commitment to the University Law Department, she became a full-time academic in 1992. She was for a number of years head of the School of Law before becoming head of the College of Social Sciences in 2011. She is a past President of the Aberdeen High School/Harlaw Academy Former Pupils’ Club.

Your FP Club is going through an important period of change in relation to both its Club Centre and School. The Dinner offers a great opportunity for informed discussion. I look forward to a full house and an enjoyable evening.

AGSFP Glasgow Centre - Curling Section
The AGSFP Glasgow Centre has competed for the last 12 years in the local 6 team Wanderers League against Strathallians, Merchistonians, Glasgow Accies, Old Glenalmond and Kelvinside Accies, all FP clubs. Frequently last, but we achieved 3rd place in season 13/14 and 4th place last year.

Our current squad is Alastaur Fyall, Jim Leask, Margery Taylor, Stefan Colling and Malcolm Gauld but we would be delighted to accept new volunteers for our 5 game season.

Anyone interested in joining should contact Malcom Gauld, the Centre President, on mwrg@hotmail.com

The Grammar at War 1914-18
From kilted heroes in Flanders dug-outs to strategists and technologists who shaped the 1914-18 conflict, Grammar FPs made an astonishing contribution to the Imperial war effort. The Grammar at War 1914-18 traces that effort and the sacrifice made by hundreds of FPs not just on the Western Front, but in theatres of war as different as the Mesopotamian deserts, the treacherous coves of Gallipoli and the frozen wastes of northern Russia..
