Aberdeen Grammar Former Pupils Club

Cricket | FP Sport

The formation of a Cricket Section was actually discussed at the time of the formation of the Club in 1893, but nothing was actually done until 1917. In that year Lennox Riddell and Alan McBain founded the Section and inaugurated the new field at Rubislaw with a challenge match against Aberdeenshire.

The early years proved difficult because of problems fielding a regular side due to calls from the County XI (which sometimes had as many as 8 Grammarians) and to the emigration of key players. The Section was re-formed on a sounder basis in 1932 at which time it was admitted to Grade 1 of the Aberdeenshire Association.

There are currently two teams playing in the Aberdeenshire Grades as well as a team in the Strathmore Union Sunday Development League.
